We enjoyed a visit from local preschoolers, who walked to the library to sweetly sing carols for us. They even brought us cookies. How lucky are we?!

Warm Hearts

Thank you to our talented patrons who generously donated time and skill for our community knit drive. What a success! It warms my heart to think of the kindness that has been extended to our neighbors. The donated items will be taken to Newark-Wayne Community hospital to be shared with those in need.

Veteran's Day

Yes, the library will be open on Veteran's Day. However, storytime will not be held since school is closed.

Friday, November 6, 2009

Chances are, if you're not on Facebook already, then you're likely to be getting on it pretty soon. Whether it's your kids or your neighbor (or those old friends you just reunited with at your high school reunion), people around you have been nagging you to sign up, set up a profile, and start "social-networking" with all your friends. Social-networking sites such as Facebook (and MySpace, Bebo, LinkedIn, etc) are increasingly turning into the first place people go when they get on the Internet, as these services offer e-mail, chat, music players, photo sharing, and so much more beyond just staying in touch with your Friends.
Sign up for the library's facebook 101 class on 11/24 and set up your profile, learn how to add pictures, send messages, deal with privacy settings, and more.

You know what they say, "Many hands make light work." Here's a shout out to the volunteers who set up, worked the sale and/or tore down the sale. You were very helpful and also greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Summer Reading Comes to a Close

As our annual summer reading program wraps up I'd like to share a few images of just some of the fun we had:

The Marion library would like to especially thank M&T bank for their generous contribution to the library. Their donation to our summer reading program made it possible for us to offer more programs, prizes, books and snacks than ever, which was awesome!

There are also many wonderful volunteers who helped make our programs run seamlessly. Shout outs go to Kacey Sturtz and her Girl Scouts Troops #212 and #327, Andy Sippel, Paula Rinella Matt Royer and Lacey Gardner. Oh, and thank you, Cami & Martha. : ) We would never have managed without all of you!

Julie Rinella, Broderick Walker, Amanda Ebert, Brett Gunio, Stephanie Fisher and Laura Passmore generously shared their time and talents with the kids to provide fun and enriching programs.

Thank you to local businesses for generous donations of gift certificates for terriffic weekly prizes including, Marks Pizza, Kutz Salon, Our House Restaurant and PJ's Ice Cream.

Also, many thanks go to the patrons and families who generously donated sidewalk chalk and snacks to feed the little darlings at craft-n-snack. Thank you to Seneca Foods for the donation of Apple Chips.

As you can see, this has been a community effort. Well done, everyone!

Express Yourself With Photography

Photobucket

A special thank you to Broderick Walker, who shared his time and talents with our teens and tweens yesterday. His enthusiasm for photography made a great impression on the kids and they had fun trying something new by posing as a model, experimenting with lighting and getting to compose a portrait with photo equipment they've never used before. Very cool!

Be Creative & Express Yourself

Photobucket

Summer reading activities have begun! Children visited the library on Tuesday for a watercolor tropical fish painting and a snack.

On Wednesday we had PJ Story time with Mrs. Blue and special guest, Mrs. Rinella, who brought her guitar for sing-along fun.

Thursday was the day teens learned about graffiti style art and applied their creative skills to the sidewalks of downtown Marion. While the theme Urban Art might be a stretch for our quaint, little village... um... well, you get the idea! After the fun we cooled off and celebrated our artistry with rootbeer floats in the community room. Before the rains comes again, I hope you get a chance to see the kids' work.
